The Love statue inspired me to create this work. The statue represents Philadelphia culture. For most of my life, I lived in Philadelphia. I did not appreciate the statue. I left Philadelphia and moved to Baltimore, Maryland, to attend graduate school in 1997. Hence, I missed home and thought about my memories in Philadelphia. The Love statue was in the skaters’ park. When I first visited the park, the statue memorized me with its strong red, green, and blue colors. When I returned to Philadelphia in the 2000s, I had a better appreciation of the Philadelphia landmarks and symbols. These landmarks made Philadelphia unique and a special place compared to other cities. Philadelphia is the only city that has a Love statue. It represents the city of brotherly love, and I wanted to document and pay homage to such a symbolic icon.
